Errata
I’ve mentioned before that I have adopted more of a diary-type format here on purpose and for multiple reasons. One of those reasons is that it’s a bit difficult to do good longform writing when I can’t do a lot of in-depth research, as much due to my shit attention span as anything else.
Well, the attention span has become even more shit than usual. Two posts ago, I had to edit that one a whole bunch of times after I had already published it because there were some pretty glaring errors. And then yesterday’s post was even worse because I put my birth year in the title instead of the current year. I could have overlooked it had I actually posted it on my birthday and just excused it off with “oh yeah, I’m just putting my date of birth in the title” but I lost that escape hatch when I posted it on the eleventh instead. Oops.
Well, it’s been fixed. So I hope no one linked to it anywhere (yeah, right), because their link will now be broken. Soz.
And the thing is, I catch this stuff sooner or later. There’s a reason someone’s asked me to proofread a manuscript of his. (That, and he’s just a helpful sort of fella.) I just wish I would catch it when I fuck up, in real time. Though I realize that’s unrealistic. There’s a reason experts advise authors to just fucking write the manuscript, put it aside for a time, and then check it for errors. You’re too close to it when you’re in the middle of writing it. You just are.
Anyway, so if you ever come back to an old post of mine actually on the Substack site or in the app and then notice something’s different from the article in your email, that would be why. You can keep the email and make fun of me all you want. I just want what’s actually up here to keep the whoopses to a minimum.
Might natter on again later. I don’t know yet. Bit of a to-do list today. Definitely will not natter tomorrow: Odd Job Day. Carry on.
