Slippery slope is still a fallacy

I’ve been in this gender fight for a while, if you can call shouting from the sidelines “fighting,” and I’ve been watching the general trends for years. I am worried about some of what is developing, so I thought I would speak to some of it here. I will admit that my son has told me he’s gay and my daughter is apparently bisexual and so I may be biased, but I would have been worried before that all fell out in that direction. I spent maybe a few years of my life being in any way anti-gay, and that was mostly by reflex since that seemed to be the general attitude of basically everyone I knew at the time. But you were probably never going to get a different set of opinions from me once I actually thought about it and considered the ethics. Harming homosexual people is still harming people, and if you weren’t defending yourself or someone else from an immediately harmful behavior by the person you were harming, that’s not fucking on.

Anyway. So I saw this screenshot in my Facebook newsfeed recently.

And it reminded me of a general phenomenon I’ve been worrying about for some time. So I decided to talk about that today.

One of the trends I’ve been watching and worrying about has been the way pedos and animal-rapers and other sexually maladjusted weirdos have been crawling out from under their respective rocks since the United States Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in 2015. In the USA, anyway; I think they were getting bold in the UK well before that, though they’ve ramped up in recent years while riding on the coattails of the sex frauds (“trans people”). Either way it is distressing.

Because, see, we who favored legalizing same-sex marriage TOLD the Christians that SSM is not the same thing as bestiality or pedophilia or those other sexually maladjusted habits and that ceasing to persecute gay men and lesbian women DID NOT mean we had to open the door for every actually distasteful or actually harmful sexual behavior out there. We SAID this to them. Over and over. Til we were blue in the face. And now look.

(Pedos have a pride flag. A FUCKING FLAG.)

You know what, though? I still think we were right. I don’t think what is happening now amounts to natural consequences. I really don’t think blaming gay men and lesbian women or calling for the rollback of same-sex marriage rights is going to fix any of this, either. So I feel a need to speak out before the backlash really gets rolling. Because it will. Because people are stupid in large numbers, and bullies especially so.

Here’s why I don’t think it’s natural consequences. Here’s why I don’t think what the homophobes promised is what’s actually happening.

The first thing that happened was that society decided that homosexuality (including that practiced by bisexuals) was unnatural and was harmful, and therefore was in the same class of sexual behaviors as bestiality and pedophilia. This belief was trained into us so early that most people ended up believing it, which is what happens when you train a person in an idea from an early age.

You may have noticed, if you’ve been involved enough with the gender-identity fight, that different people have different responses to a culture war. There’s a minority handful who get vocal and demonstrative and in-your-face about their beliefs on either side, or multiple sides, of a debate. But there’s a much, much larger group of people who share the beliefs of one side or the other but just don’t act out or speak out about it. Bit like an actual war in that respect: a military is only ever a small percentage of the population it’s fighting for, but the at-home non-military population may agree with the aims of the military and provide material support for its actions.

You’ve seen this, right? With me so far?

I think the same thing went on with the societal belief that homosexuality was in the same class of behaviors as bestiality and pedophilia. I think a lot of people agreed with that idea but didn’t want to talk about it, so never spoke up. Furthermore, not all of them agreed that all of those things were unnatural and harmful behaviors. So what you ended up with was a group of people who felt that gay men, lesbians, animal-rapers, and child-rapers were natural allies.

And, given the population distribution of homosexual versus heterosexual people, most of the people holding that belief wouldn’t even be gay or lesbian. They’d be straight people.

I think that these days a large contingent of the so-called LGBTQIA+ population are actually heterosexual people, or at the least bisexual people who are usually in heterosexual relationships, and that you will tend to find higher concentrations of those amongst the TQIA and whatever that + means, which I have it on pretty good authority that yes, they include pedophiles in that plus. But these are straight people. These are hets. They want to let their freak flag fly and feel special, so they count themselves in a population that, thanks to society’s general bigotry, aligns them with lesbian women and gay men so that they can get Oppressed Minority points.

So it’s not the lesbian women and gay men “moving on to bestiality and pedophilia.” It’s the straights force-teaming lesbian women and gay men with the STRAIGHT PEOPLE’s bestiality and pedophilia.

It’s bad people camouflaging themselves in a population which still isn’t seen as normal and mainstream by the heterosexual majority. Keep in mind we’ve only had nationwide legal same-sex marriage for a decade and there are still idiot politicians who want to roll that back. Homophobia ain’t over. I wonder if it ever will be.

I grant you that some gay men and lesbians (though I would argue not very many lesbians, and many of the ones who do are probably actually bisexual women) seem to be going along with this force-teaming and may see the animal-rapers and child-rapers as victims somehow. I don’t think this is an inherent element of being gay or lesbian. I think this is just the fact that gay men and lesbians are human beings and fallible, and some human beings are royal fuckups, and gay men and lesbians are not immune from being royal fuckups just because they’re not heterosexual.

But most lesbian women and gay men don’t sign on to this shit, because most human beings don’t sign on to this shit, and it’s not fair that they’re being dragged into the mud to wallow with the perverts. They clearly don’t want to be there.

So as the pendulum begins swinging back towards something like sanity, let’s please do remember that most of the LG contingent didn’t ask for this. The idea of being a good ally is valid even if the queer-theory idiots have twisted it beyond recognition. Protecting homosexual people from homophobes is an obvious expression of allyship, but we need to keep in mind that there are many ways to be a homophobe and only some of them involve assault and murder.

How do you help protect gays and lesbians from this kind of slander? It’s such a low bar. Speak the fuck up. Stop accepting the argument that homosexuality is the same thing as sexual deviance, no matter who is making that argument. If we can finally culturally separate the people with a natural sexual orientation (yes — we find homosexuals in other animal species too, even wild ones) from the people with mental illness and personality disorders, that would go a long way towards making them safer. It’s long past time.
